Swift Water Rescue Technician (For professional River Guides)

This class is specially designed to meet the needs of the professional whitewater river guide.  It assumes rudimentary paddling skills and boat control.  A basic understanding of river currents and the ability to “read” water are helpful but not required.  This class will focus on the frequent needs of the guide to perform quick swimmer retrieval while ensuring the safety of other passengers.  The student will also learn advanced rescue techniques for pinned rafts, swimming whitewater and foot entrapments. 

This Swift Water Rescue class consists of 15 hours over 2 days.  The first day is combination lecture and on shore demonstration.  The second day will be on the river.  The participant should be prepared to spend considerable time in the water.  Each person will need an approved PFD and a throw rope. 

Swift Water Rescue Technician - Operations Level (for professional rescue personnel)

This class is specially designed to meet the needs of professional rescue personnel.  No prior skills or experience is required.  This class will introduce river hydrology and how to recognize currents; commonly referred to as reading water.   The student will become familiar with basic paddling skills as they pertain to rudimentary boat control.  Time will be spent on how to swim in whitewater with and without a victim. The student will also become familiar with basic rigging techniques as they relate to swift water rescue.  The student will also learn advanced rescue techniques for foot entrapments.

Private and Group Lessons

The best way to learn about whitewater, a private lesson.  Our instructors are all professional guides.  All of our lessons are raft-based, so there is no need to worry about being left in a rapid or rolling a kayak.  Our instructor sits beside you in one of the smallest rafts on the market.  Learn about currents, eddies, paddle technique and boat control in one of the oldest river valleys in the US!  The class includes use of all equipment you'll need PLUS lunch!
